EMO-TRANS GmbH, a global logistics provider, teamed up with Lufthansa Industry Solutions (LHIND) to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy and introduce EPACTO, a powerful ESG software solution. Although the EU Omnibus package currently under review is set to exempt small and medium-sized enterprises from reporting requirements in the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), EMO-TRANS remained committed to the project. This approach enables the company to satisfy growing demands from its customers, partners and other stakeholders while also securing its long-term market position.

The challenge
Before the project, EMO-TRANS faced a complex situation. It faced stringent regulatory requirements in relation to sustainability – arising in particular from plans for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Yet, EMO-TRANS lacked the internal capacities and expertise needed to meet these requirements in a structured manner. Added to this was the company’s desire to establish ESG as a fixed component of its corporate strategy, rather than engaging with topics in isolation.
Besides complying with potential reporting requirements, EMO-TRANS was focused above all on creating clear data recording and analysis processes, defining internal responsibilities and targeting company-wide alignment on sustainability-related matters. The company wanted to implement strategic control of sustainability issues from the ground up, thereby meeting the expectations of customers, partners and other stakeholders.
The solution
LHIND supported EMO-TRANS through the entire process – from the initial analysis through to strategic implementation of the results. The aim was to create transparency regarding regulatory requirements and develop a robust basis for CSRD-compliant reporting. To achieve this, LHIND adopted a multi-stage approach that combined strategic consultancy, technological support and practical process monitoring. EMO-TRANS implemented EPACTO as the central software solution to record and make ESG data available for use.
Although the framework conditions changed while the project was well underway following amendments to the EU Omnibus package, EMO-TRANS pressed ahead with the plan. Rather than downgrading sustainability as a priority, the company seized the opportunity to adopt an even more targeted approach, focusing more closely on the expectations of its stakeholders. This included developing a robust ESG strategy, systematically recording relevant sustainability data and analyzing physical, political and economic climate risks. The result is an approach that not only documents sustainability but embeds it firmly in the company’s day-to-day activities.
Technologies and tools used
EPACTO – central ESG software for collecting, validating and analyzing data in line with reporting standards
CLIMADA – a scientifically substantiated open-source model for simulating the impacts of climate change on company locations
Customer benefits
By partnering with LHIND, EMO-TRANS not only gained clarity regarding complex regulatory requirements but also developed a robust sustainability strategy built for the long term. Consequently, the company is now in a position to manage ESG topics systematically, implement reporting processes efficiently and manage risks proactively – even in a constantly evolving regulatory landscape.
By introducing EPACTO, EMO-TRANS benefits from centralized and structured recording of all relevant ESG data, which improves transparency and reduces the workload involved in preparing future reports. Furthermore, climate scenario and resilience analyses provide a solid basis to prepare for physical and political climate risks and introduce strategic measures in a timely manner. The project also created value by raising sustainability awareness across the company: workshops and stakeholder engagement firmly embedded sustainability awareness among employees and promoted its integration in decision-making processes.
While EMO-TRANS now has the certainty that it complies with regulatory requirements, it has also positioned itself as a strong, future-ready and forward-looking company to its customers and partners.
