From double materiality analysis to the first CSRD-compliant report
NETZSCH establishes sustainability management and develops an integrated ESG strategy
NETZSCH, a medium-sized industrial enterprise, wanted to progress beyond merely meeting statutory requirements and instead develop an integrated and future-ready environmental, social & governance (ESG) strategy. Lufthansa Industry Solutions (LHIND) supported NETZSCH throughout the process, helping the company to establish audit-proof sustainability management and build internal expertise.

Teamwork: the NETZSCH sustainability team and LHIND consultants met regularly for workshops to work together on various ESG sub-projects.
The challenge
From complex statutory requirements to wide-ranging data sources and a lack of comparative values, the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) threw up major challenges for many companies – and NETZSCH was no exception. Yet, rather than opting simply to fulfill the minimum requirements under law, the company resolved to anchor sustainably firmly in its corporate strategy.
NETZSCH sought expert support to assist with the development of a comprehensive sustainability management system and an integrated ESG strategy. In light of its extensive technical and methodological expertise and highly practical approach, LHIND was chosen to support the project.
The solution
In the first step, LHIND worked with the NETZSCH Group’s Sustainability team to conduct a double materiality analysis. Not only did this impress external auditors, it also laid the foundations for all subsequent ESG activities. LHIND assisted NETZSCH in calculating carbon footprints for various products and helped the company to record indirect emissions in line with Scope 3 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol for the first time – a key step towards generating a complete corporate carbon footprint. A fit gap analysis with regard to the CSRD was conducted as well as an EU taxonomy assessment. This made it possible to develop a clearly defined recording process for taxonomy-eligible revenue, CapEx and OpEx.
The project teams gathered for joint workshops to develop a comprehensive ESG strategy. They also drew up sub-strategies, including a climate strategy, and conducted a CSRD-compliant climate scenario analysis. The team of LHIND consultants also supported NETZSCH in establishing ESG governance and creating a suitable organizational structure with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. The result is an audit-proof, future-oriented sustainability management and a highly practical ESG strategy that features specific, measurable targets and pathways to achieve them.
Customer benefits
The most important outcome, and a particular highlight of the collaboration between NETZSCH and LHIND, was the publication of the company’s first CSRD-compliant sustainability report in September 2025. The report was examined by an auditor and received corresponding confirmation of compliance.
In addition, NETZSCH now has a clear ESG strategy and an aligned internal organizational structure. The company has developed the internal expertise needed to produce CSRD-compliant reports independently in the future and to continue improving the company’s sustainability performance.
